Having won numerous Region, National and International awards for our sausages and burgers, we constantly strive to be at the top of our game. This year again has been no exception. Both shops received rave reviews for sausages entered in the Foodservice Pork Sausage of the year competition with our Heighley Gate shop scooping three Golds, a silver and a bronze whilst our Rothbury shop took five golds, a silver and a bronze too. This is one of the top competitions in the country and to take away such a haul of awards is a massive achievement and one we are very proud of.
Rothbury Family butchers has been invited to the Champion of Champions 26 Oct 2009 at the Butchers Hall London.
This is the award to find the UK’s top sausage maker. Entry to the competition is by invitation only and, as the name of the competition suggests, to qualify for entry sausage makers must be the holder of the top award in a current, recognised competition or evaluation. Recognised as the premier award of its type since the early 1980s.
Having won the North east regional final of British sausage week with our Cragside Cracker, we now get to put it up against all other competition winners since last june.
This is considered the ” F.A. Cup Final ” for sausage makers.
Rothbury Family butchers gained International recognition last week when we won 3 Golds Awards and 2 Silvers for products entered in the meat expo competition in Kortrijk Belgium.
Four sausage types were entered along with one Burger. The winning products were the Cragside Cracker Sausage ( Gold Award ), Simonside Sizzler Sausage ( Gold Award ), Northumbrian Sausage ( Gold Award ), Pork,Ginger & Spring Onion Sausage ( Silver )and Red Onion Steak Burger ( Silver Award ). Four judges were allocated to each product and the average score taken. One judge even gave the Northumbrian Sausage 100 out of 100!
Another massive achievement not only for RFB but we would like to think Rothbury as a whole. Customers can now continue to shop at a shop not only with National recognition but now International!
Rothbury Family butchers achieved what no other Butcher in the country has achieved by winning two categories in the the Food service pork sausage of the year Competition this week.
This competition is probably one of the most passionately fought food competitions in the world.
With entries totalling over 400 products each year the competition has grown into one of the most prestigious landmarks in any foodie’s diary.
Sausage makers all over Britain send in their weird and wonderful creations as well as the standard pork sausage to see if their recipes make it through to the final. The competition is spilt into 5 categories Traditional Pork, Speciality Pork, Reduced Salt/Fat Pork, Best Pub Sausage, and Best High Volume Sausage. All sausage entered is judged by top food industry experts and given marks accordingly. Rothbury Family Butchers entered 6 types of sausage and received 3 Gold’s (95% or above), 2 Silvers and a Bronze. Not only did all their products pick up awards but The Traditional Pork Sausage and the Sweet Chilli Sausage were judged best overall in their categories.
Proprietor Morris Adamson said “nowadays to win any gold in competitions is amazing as they’re only given out to products scoring 95%or above but to get three and take two overall titles is unbelievable for us! “ “Especially in the traditional Pork section as this is the Holy Grail for butchers.Im sure if you go into any butchers across the country they will make a Traditional pork sausage. So to be judged the best in the competition is overwhelming”
These results were even more special as no other Butcher in the country has taken two titles in this competition before. Morris travelled to the butcher’s hall in London for an awards lunch last Friday to pick up the awards.
After receiving his two silver salvers, certificates and two bottles of champagne Morris added “As I’m tee-total the staff can share the champagne! But I will find pride of place in the shop for the awards”
There may be more awards to follow as next month two more of the shops sausages (Cragside Cracker and Simonside Sizzler) have reached the regional final of Britain’s Landmark Banger Competition and Morris has been invited to a restaurant in Newcastle to have them cooked along with the other finalists to be judged by legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird in conjunction with British Sausage week. Later in the month Morris and his wife Maria are off to the capital again for an awards luncheon in London where celebrity Ready Steady Cook Chef Lesley Waters will be presenting the couple with no fewer than Eleven Smithfield awards.
Rothbury Family Butchers scooped a Whopping 7 Smithfield Awards at this years product evaluation.These awards are some of the most prestigious in the meat industry.
4 Gold Awards ( 95% or above! ) were arwded to our Cragside Cracker Sausage, Pork and Chestnut Sausage, Pork, Orange and Cranberry Sausage and our Cragside Turkey Roast ( Turkey breast stuffed with our cragside cracker sausage meat topped with sprigs of Rosemary and slices of red Onion.)

1 Bronze ( Pork Ginger and Spring Onion sausage.)
The Gold Award winning products are now in line for a Diamond Award. The Diamond winners will be revealed at an Awards Luncheon at The Butchers Hall in London in November. We are sending Paul down to the luncheon ( Hosted by Celebrity chef Ed Baines ) so fingers crossed!
